Greyhound Bus Extremely Disrespectful to Costumers' Time - 1:05 Bus from Milwaukee, WI to Chicago, IL


I was supposed to take the bus today from Milwaukee to Chicago, to attend a meeting. I had purchased my ticket online, and arrived at the bus station this afternoon ready to board the bus. A few minutes after my arrival, it was announced that the bus would leave 2 hours later than scheduled. At that point, I would have missed the meeting, and therefore there was no point in going.

I understand that sometimes there are problems with transportation -- especially with buses -- and that some things are beyond the company's control. This is not at all the issue. It is the appalling way in which this was handled that bothers me:

(1) When I spoke to the representative at the counter, he said the bus had left Minnesota 4.5 hours late, due to weather conditions or technical problems, and this is why it would be a while before it arrives at Milwaukee. Therefore, it is clear that the company knew the bus would be late long before the scheduled departure from Milwaukee. It seems like the least they could do is send an automated message to costumers who had purchased tickets in advance (they have email addresses). Had I known about this delay, I could have taken the train or made other arrangements, in order to get to my meeting on time. But the way this was handled, I had no choice but to cancel my meeting altogether. This shows great disrespect for costumer's time, and for this reason alone -- I will never use Greyhound again, despite my frequent visits to Chicago.

(2) I asked for a refund, given that the cancellation was the company's fault and not mine. It was not immediately clear -- and still isn't -- whether I will get the refund. Again, given that the problem was on their end, they should have done more to take care of this.
